Large milkweed bug (Oncopeltus fasciatus)

Larose Forest

These Seed Bugs ( Lygaeidae) feed on milkweed seeds. According to Bug Guide they overwinter as adults and since they can't survive cold winters, the migrate south in autumn.

fabulous shot...they do look large thanks to tight framing...a squadron of them during migration must be quite a sight..
