Eastern Redbud (Cercis canadensis)

At home

The redbud tree is native to eastern NA; in Ontario, probably only naturally occurring in far southern Ontario. However, some trees have been planted around Ottawa including a couple in our garden, and they have done well. Their blossoms are striking. It must be something to see them in their natural habitat, as an understory tree in woodlands. With climate change their range will probably extend.

That's a pretty pea. Indeed, it must be quite something to see in its natural habitat.

The blossoms are very pretty - they remind me of gorse or vetch in their shape.
They must make a great addition to the garden.
