I posted a different view of this ice-breaker a week or so back. This odd looking ice-breaker is a floating excavator, designed to break up the thick ice on parts of the river to help prevent spring flooding. Excellent shot of this ice-breaking machine Christine. I always thought they used dynamite to blow-up the ice. Thanks for the link too - very interesting.
