My world - 3: Bohemian waxwing

Beechwood Cemetery

One of 100+ birds feeding on crabapples this morning. Birds have been part of my world for decades; first got interested at age 8, lost interest for a few years, reignited in my late teens, lost again, reignited for good in my mid-20s and have been birding ever since. I love the way birds mark the passage of the year, and how miraculous it is to see the migrants returning in spring, and how bittersweet when they depart in autumn, but hoping they come back again the following year, which they do, but in ever-dwindling numbers (thanks to habitat loss, collisions with glass windows, glass towers, killed in the millions by free-roaming cats, the litany of problems they face is endless....)

How beautiful!

Beautiful bird perfectly captured. It is so sad that their numbers are dwindling and for the reasons mentioned. Climate change and population growth and all the problems that go along with both are going to be the undoing of everything. ~BV~

wow a beautiful picture of the amazing beautiful bird its nice that you can see them come and eat at your feeding place i am not that lucky in the middle of the city where the houses are lined up with a small garden, continue to admire them in all their splendor Christine BV

So remarkable and sleek looking. The body reminds me of a seal. Really like the head fethers and the bits of colors. "V"

A beautiful profile of the sharp and sleek Bohemian Waxwing. Perfect in context with the crab apples. They always give me the impression of royalty and this shot only enhances that impression.

An exceptional portrait of this Waxwing beauty. We are seeing bird populations declining in this area
also much is attributed to drastic decline in the insect population, probably due to the overuse of
insecticides.

Totally agree about the miracle and bittersweet nature of their migrations.

It’s name 8s so appropriate as it really does appear to be made of wax...a superb closeup. V

what a looker....cool to see, as only the Cedars are out here, and not Bohemians (although there are many hip people!!)..

This is exceptional in that you captured the wing markings! Have never seen one that I know of. It loos like a bird with a fashion design team and they are doing a good job! Beautiful bird! V
It is a challenge being a bird.

Unfortunately the litany is indeed endless, but you got an excellent capture of this waxwing, which I find among the most beautiful of birds. V.
