Tiger swallowtail butterfly caterpillar (Papilio)

Larose Forest

This is the appealing little caterpillar that will one day turn into the impressively large tiger swallowtail. The fake eyes probably help to startle away predators. His brown head can just be seen below the "eyes". You can see it has anchored itself to the leaf via the webbing. This one was on an ash tree.

Appealing ... in a strange, rather grotesque way. Looks like a juicy nibble for a bird.
