Polyphemus moth and Northern apple sphinx moth

Larose Forest

The apple sphinx is a large moth but next to the five inch wingspan of the Polyphemus, it is dwarfed.

Love everything about this photo, of course the moth is gorgeous but the tree bark is so interesting too.

Wonderful camouflage by both. Mother Nature's brilliance. One is the bark and the other a warning to predators - looks like an animal's face. Superb find and image. V

Amazing pattern in the polyphemus. Neat to get two moths together to compare.

Great shot of these moths. Thankfully we don't seem to get moths with a 5 inch wingspan around here :-)

The polyphemus is a gorgeous moth. I love its colors and "eyes." The smaller sphinx moth is pretty as well. Excellent, detailed capture of both. V.
