These beautiful beetles appear in early July and feed almost exclusively on the native spreading dogbane plant, but sometimes they are found on milkweeds. They are not to be confused with the Japanese beetle, whom they only slightly resemble. These native beetles are never in large numbers and unless you are lucky and grow spreading dogbane, you wouldn't find them in your garden.
