Ensign scale (Family-Ortheziidae)

Byrne Big Creek Nature Preserve

This is the nymph of a scale insect in the Ortheziidae family. It is so tiny that at first I thought it was a speck of seed fluff. Then it moved slightly. This is really stretching the limits of my camera to get this heavily cropped shot!

How interesting looking, and well captured despite the heavy crop. V.
