Wedge-shaped beetle (Ripiphorus sp.), female

Ottawa West

According to Bug Guide, this odd-looking beetle lives for only a brief time. The males for perhaps a single day, the females maybe slightly longer. This female may be laying eggs on the flower heads. Apparently this family (the Wedge-shaped Beetles) occurs worldwide, with 9 species in Canada.

Such interesting antennae - you've introduced me to another species I've not heard of.
