Pea Weevil (Bruchus pisorum)

Rockcliffe Park

Found on a patch of wild-growing goutweed. The larvae develop in the seeds of peas, but in the wild, they develop on seeds of cow-vetch (Vicia) and sweet-pea (Laythrus), both of which are abundant around the site where this was found. Also called Pea Beetle, this is not a true weevil but a member of the leaf-eating beetles (Chrysomelidae).
