Himalayan balsam (Impatiens glandulifera)

Ottawa west

A non-native species that has the potential here, to become quite invasive, as it already is out west. In other parts of the world, in the UK for example, it has spread rapidly. The plant is native to the Himalayas as its common name suggests. But it is a beautiful flower! Very orchid-like, and as can be seen, bees love it - here a bumble bee is digging in.

I thought for sure it was an orchid from the thumbnail. Lovely capture of this beautiful but invasive plant. V.
