Insects on sow thistle (Sonchus)

Mer Bleue area

The sow thistle is a European species (actually there are three species here) that has become naturalized in North America. As you can see, it really attracts native insects. There is a sweat bee (Halictid) in the middle and a number of tiny Toxomerus syphid flies on the rest of the flower. As well, there are aphids on the stem.
