Firefly larva

Green's Creek

Found a couple of these on a birch tree. Here, you can see the head poking out. Most of the time when I see them, they are stationary and their head is hidden. To see the beetles they become, click on the next few photos. And yes, these turn into the familiar fireflies of summer nights!
