Giant swallowtail caterpillar and....

Giant swallowtail caterpillars (larvae) mimic bird droppings, especially when in the early stages as here. The top photo shows a dollop of shiny brown and white bird scat, and the second photo shows a shiny brown and white caterpillar! The idea is that this mimicry will fool predators.
