British soldiers lichen (Cladonia)

Mer Bleue area

There is an old wooden fence along the trail that always has a good colony of these colourful lichens. Most lichens don't have a common name, but I guess the vivid red must have reminded someone of the red coats of the British soldiers of the past.

It's always fun to discover these. Perhaps it's the bright red or the name. Nice find and an excellent photo. Vote.
