It was a joy to see one of these now so-uncommon (rare, even) butterflies.
There is a little crab spider on the thistle also.

Cool capture. Those crab spiders are very effective in hanging out near flowers to catch unsuspecting prey. I wonder if that little guy would have a go at such a huge prize if given a better angle. Yes, it is unfortunate that these are in decline. I guess the same must be said of milkweed.
