Small bird-dropping moth caterpillar (Ponometia erastrioides), #9095

Larose Forest

Found on its host plant, the native ragweed. The moth, plus a fruit fly and a beetle, are three insects closely associated with ragweed. Yesterday, I found all three on one plant. The fly and the moth are both useful in controlling ragweed (which is the plant that causes allergies for many people), and have been imported into other countries where ragweed is an invasive species, to help with control.
