Hairy fungus beetle (Mycetophagus punctatus)

Fletcher Wildlife Garden

Found one night while mothing at the garden. Many interesting insects come to the lights at night, in addition to moths.

Very nice. Saw a cluster of these guys eating a large fungus in the Park some years back. Probably a related species as the red was much brighter. Vote.

this hairy fellow looks fairly clean shaven... mothing certainly sounds an interesting pursuit...so far the nightly pursuits have been reduced to stumbling about in the dark, but perhaps should be more ambitious..
