Chalcid wasp cocoons, probably Eulophus sp.

Larose Forest

Found underneath a sugar maple leaf. These look like mini-standing stones, but are in fact the pupae of a Chalcidid wasp, probably in the genus Eulophus. At the base of each cocoon is the meconium (frass) that the larvae expels just before pupating.
