Found this impressive looking wasp on an old decaying tree. That long whip-like thing that looks like a stinger, is not... it is an ovipositor and she is looking for a place to lay eggs. These wasps are parasitic on many beetle species. In recent years they have been found to parasitize some beetle pests of soybean crops.

Very cool find. Probably the longest ovipositor I've ever seen.
