Sawfly larva (Dimorphopteryx)

Reveler Conservation Area

This attractive sawfly larva is one of several I saw on various basswood trees. If you look closely at the head (top end of the larva), you'll see two little 'horns' sticking out. These pop up when the creature is disturbed.

Super capture, and very interesting about those "horns." I guess you must have disturbed it quite a bit! V.
