It was a beautiful warm day for mid-November, and we took a long hike off-trail. Some of it was tough slogging and several times we thought of turning around, but decided to persist, and were rewarded with this sighting! First pine grosbeak I've seen in several years, so I am hoping this is a harbinger of more to come this winter. Normally they are a northern species, only coming down this way when food sources are scarce up north, though there can sometimes be a few wanderers in any given year.
