Six-spotted fishing spider (Dolomedes triton), female

Mer Bleue Conservation Area. This is a ubiquitous spider, commonly seen resting just as in this photo, with the tips of a couple of its legs on the water to detect vibrations on the water, signalling prey. This large spider (including the legs, this one can measure up to 75mm) will readily dive to catch food!

Great photo. I find it hard to image a spider diving, but that's my limited view of the world!

Terrific photo - a spider to look at only from far away, thank you.
