Sawfly larva (Caliroa obsoleta)

This glistening green and gold slug-like creature is actually the larva of a sawfly and as an adult will look very much like a dark wasp. This species is closely associated with oaks and this one, and several othrers, was on the underside of a red oak leaf. I had been hoping to find these unusual larvae.

Looks almost like a dew drop on the leaf. Excellent image. V.

Almost transparent, and not the least like sawfly larvae I'm familiar with. Fascinating.

So gelatinous, quite beautiful with its translucence and curvature. V
