Gall on American Elm

Beechwood Cemetery. Walking around this site yesterday, I noticed an American Elm (Ulmus americana) whose leaves had numerous of these bright red galls on them. They may be made by an aphid, or perhaps by a cecidomyiidae fly.

Not a good sign, at least cosmetically. Insect must have now moved on. V

The whole world in a droplet, and even better that it's hanging from the gall which looks a bit like a developing cactus bloom to me. "V"
