The jade flute

Li Po is one of the best known of the Tang Dynasty Chinese poets, yet it seems little is really known about him, though tales abound. His poetry is evocative and melancholy, as this one shows. The translation is by Robert Payne, from the book "The White Pony. An anthology of Chinese Poetry."

Whence comes the sound of the jade flute, flying through the dark,

Coming with the spring wind, hovering over Loyang?

On a night like this to hear the song of "Willow -breaking" -

What else can I do but think bitterly of my home?

Beautiful spring green willow tree. The sun has a little heat in it this afternoon - promising we're heading in the right direction.
