Photographed in my garden. This is the adult sawfly nectaring. The insert shows the larval form. It is easy to see how the larval sawflies can be mistaken for moth or butterfly caterpillars, but if you look closely, you'll see there are some differences that distinguish the sawfly larvae from that of lepidoptera. Sawflies are not flies! They are in the Hymenoptera Order, along with bees and wasps.
