Red oak acorn

This acorn has been nibbled open by a white-footed or a deer mouse (Peromyscus sp.) and the contents extracted. It caught my eye, sitting on an old split rail fence, as it looked like a tiny clay pot!

It's definitely empty and I can see where it's been chewed open. Great detail. V.
