Rockcliffe Park. This impressive wasp, approximately 2 inches long, scares people who assume that the long abdomen is a stinger. It is NOT. This wasp is harmless. In fact, it is beneficial as it is a parasite on the larvae of june beetles, which are the grubs chewing away on the roots of lawn grass. These wasps also prey on other beetle larvae too.
