This tiny mushroom is usually fan-shaped, occasionally round like this (this is the underside). It is always found on dead wood. During dry periods it shrivels up into hard little innocuous bits of white, but when moisture hits, as the recent snow did, it unfolds and expands (this was about 12 mm).
