Gall of the Goldenrod Elliptical-Gall Moth (Gnorimoschema gallaesolidaginis), #1986

There was an exit hole on this gall, so I cut it open and found the moth cocoon inside. The galls made by the moths differ in shape from the more common and familiar round ones made the goldenrod gall fly.

This is fascinating. It has never occurred to me to cut open a gall. Fabulous close up. V.
