Black bear scat

Back in late August, I was walking off-trail when I came across some nice fresh bear scat, full of black elderberry fruit. The area was lush with the native elderberry, as well as blackberries, and the bear had clearly had a good feed. On my way back, I heard a deep 'whoofing' sound from the bush about 7 feet away. Obviously, the bear was telling me to stay away from his feeding patch. Naturally, I did!

OK... so here I sit looking at bear poop and having you tell me how the bear was upset 'cause you were near his berries. YIKES! I'd get the heck out of there... and FAST!

(somehow it just doesn't feel right voting for bear poop but you always enlighten me!)

I agree with Inga. It's interesting it's not all digested. Maybe it was too large a feast even for a bear. Fascinating photo. V.

He barely, or bearly touched some of those blueberries.
I bet they were tasty too. Great find and shot. Nice bear, nice bear.
Now go Christine.

Quite remarkable how man berries get passed without being digested. A meal good enough for another critter I'm sure.
