My second entry is a haiku by my favourite poet, Issa. I have always thought of Issa as being a gentle soul, with great compassion for all life. This photo shows a hover fly (Syrphid) on a New England Aster. The translation of the haiku is by Stephen Addiss, Fumiko and Akira Yamamoto, from their book "Haiku: An Anthology of Japanese Poems".

Where there are people

There are flies, and

There are Buddhas.

I've also seen this translated as "Where there are flies, There are humans, There are Buddhas", the translation I'm more familiar with. It seems to flow better this way...but I don't know who did this particular translation, so am going with the one from the book.
