This familiar and common beetle is a signal that summer is moving along. They appear once the milkweed begins growing, and with their large size and bright red colour, are striking, and hard to miss. They belong to the long-horned beetle family (Cerambycidae). The adults munch on milkweed leaves and here, you can see just a bit of green left in the mouth. This one came rushing over to the milkweed flower and confronted me when I began to move my camera closer. It was as if he was crossing his 'arms' and saying "well now, this is interesting".
