Banasa stink bug (Banasa dimidiata)

Found on a pagoda dogwood shrub along a hiking trail. One of the pleasures of this time of year is seeing anew all the familiar birds, flowers, butterflies and other insects that we've not seen since last spring and summer. While not everyone may be pleased to see stinkbugs (!), I find them quite beautiful, particularly this little red-headed one. This very common species feeds on seeds and berries.

He's a rotund little insect. Super detail. I suppose if you don't touch them, you can admire them. V.

There are so many different ones, my favourite is the red and black striped stink bug that likes cow parsley. Great study of this one Christine.

a tiny marvel, with every right to defend itself...as a vegetarain it seems benign enough, and certainly attractive in an unusual way..
