Golden tortoise beetle (Charidotella sexpunctata)

This gorgeous little (about 5 mm) golden creature is a Chrysomelid (leaf-eating beetle). When alarmed it turns red! These beetles, whether red or golden, are very shiny and seem to almost glow. They apparently feed mainly on the leaves of plants in the Convolvulus family.

A glowing tortoise! The "shell" is remarkably tortoise-like, and one could believe it was hiding its head as tortoises so often do.

Not dissimilar to chafer beetles we have here, our most impressive one is the rose chafer and is luminescent green. This one is much smaller though and your image is brilliant!
