Six-spotted tiger beetle (Cicindela sexguttata)

These strikingly coloured tiger beetles are often found as soon as the land warms up. You will often see them as darting glints of emerald green, flying just ahead of you down a sandy woodland trail. Usually very fast moving, and reluctant to stay still, you occasionally get lucky. Note the mandibles with which they grasp their prey (other insects).

It's so interesting to read your caption on their demeanor.
It's so characteristic of them. The image on my gallery of
a tiger beetle I took was under the same circumstances, i.e.
flying ahead down a sandy trail and reluctant to stay still.

These are so difficult to approach. I have nice shots of them too, but not from this metal green species. Love the angle.
