Sow thistle (Sonchus)

There are three species of sow thistle in this area, all native to Europe. They are a tall dandelion-like plant, and in large stands create a beautiful golden glow in late summer and through to mid-autumn. When they go to seed, birds such as sparrows and finches will eat their seeds.

A beautiful late Fall flower, a superb image and good description. Thanks for sharing Christine.

A lot of people don't like these plants, but I love them. A field of them is so beautiful and now, with full drab being the dominant colour outside at this time of year, a splash of nature's finest is really appreciated.

Yes, I have seen these. Wonderful, detailed close up. I love those little curly things which I'm sure have a scientific name. :) Nature's art beautifully captured. V.
