Burying beetle (Necrophila americana)

A very common beetle, though you may have to move around dead bodies to see them! These small beetles, and others in the Family Silphidae, perform the same function that Vultures do. That is, they help clean away the road kill and other animals that die from whatever causes in the great outdoors. Many in this family can quickly bury the body of a dead mouse or mole in no time at all. Quite amazing.
