One is a bumblebee and one is a fly!

Some species of hover flies are such good bumblebee mimics that you really have to double-check your ID! I walked by a Queen Anne's lace plant today and saw a bumblebee - but then I looked again and realized it was not a bee but a fly. Closer examination revealed it to be a Hover Fly (Syrphida), an Eristalis flavipes bottom photo. The top photo shows a real bumblebee!!!

Super diptych to show how close they really are in appearance. The antennae are the most obvious differences in these shots. V
