Brown thrasher

A very unusual visitor to a feeder of a friend of mine out near Larose Forest: A brown thrasher. This bird should have long left for the south. Hopefully it will be able to survive the winter. It was first noticed this morning and we watched it come frequently to the feeder over the course of four hours.

Great shot, and a great bird for the Winter List. I hope it had the good sense to fly south after all the snow we just got! V

Unusual find for this time of year! In his blog Bruce Di Labio mentions seeing a Baltimore Oriole around town this week too.

I hope the best for it too. What a lovely little bird.

Wow, that's crazy! I hope he or she survives too. It's a long wait until April.

Good find, Christine. I bet he will be fine with all that food at his disposal. I remember seeing a brown thrasher in winter on Amherst Island years ago. They are one of the first spring arrivals here.

Terrific shot and find Christine. I've not seen one this late.

Perhaps it was injured and not up to the flight...hopefully it will find your feeder through the winter to come.
