Brown mantidfly (Climaciella brunnea), a mimic of vespid wasps

Manion Long Swamp

These are odd looking insects. Although called "mantidflies" they are not flies, but members of Neuroptera, or Nerve-winged insects (same group as Lacewings). They look like a cross between a preying mantis and a wasp!
