There was once a flourishing little community in Larose Forest, called Grant, on the western edge, along Grant Rd/Concession 11. There was a one-room school (built in 1872), a church and cemetery, a post office, a cheese factory and many houses. Today, all that remains is the cemetery, and the foundations of church and school. The forest has grown over the site and become a home for other creatures. Moose, deer, birds and butterflies now live where the village once stood. Local historian, Alexandra de Quimper, has collected and preserved the memories of this settlement and ensured it is not forgotten. Guided walks around the village site, Remembrance Day ceremony, November 11, and an annual summer picnic, are some events associated with this historical site.
A very interesting gallery Christine. I love these remnants of the past. The family name McNab is quite often seen in other parts of the Ottawa Valley - are they all related?
