Very funny. I know a woman whose mom told her back in '70s, "Don't take up the guitar, dear. It's just a fad. Learn the balalaika, it's classical." I've never seen her balalaika, but the guitar...YES!
It's a Balalaika: A Russian Musical instrument with a triangular body and three strings that produces sounds similar to those of a mandolin. I assumed it was a middle eastern instrument because we had it while living in Beirut. Called my Mom to verify. A neighbor had gone to Russia and brought back this as a present. So it's a Russian-born, Lebanese-adopted guitar. LOL
