I like both photos of man and dog, but I think I like this one better. There is more of an interaction between man and dog. it's just them against the world.

This photo really attracted my attention. Beautiful lighting, beautiful silhouette, beautiful moment, and as what Phil said, a great human value inside.
I revisit this picture and see even more than I saw originally. I love the almost frantic lean of the man, the delight of the dog, the surge of the waves and rise of the hills that seem to flow in response to the motions of man and beast. And once again that masterful touch of color within a black white image that adds the tension of reality vs. unreality to the image. My favorite Lara shot, by far. Critics might fault the man and dog theme as being a bit on the cliche side, but I find the struggle between man and dog too strong here to lapse into a cliche. The dog seems to be doing his thing, and the man is fighting a losing battle in getting it to behave. I no longer see the theme as one of loneliness, but more of an observation on control. The man is having difficulty controlling his dog, let alone the vast environment in which he must live.
Great Abstraction and Human Values, Lara -- and nicely composed as well. The image speaks to us of both the man and his dog, and even more so about the lonely yet beautiful scene they share.
