Your brother (I assume) is right. This is a surreal image. Is it in this world or on the rocks of the moon? We slip and slide all over those rocks, and while doing so, we finally discover a dog and man merging into the background that don't give a damn about those dangers. That's what is so surreal about this picture -- it is really two worlds in contrast. In the foreground a world of nature and all of its perils. In the background, domesticity. Life goes on despite the hurdles we must somehow negotiate. This image has a lot of substance to it. It straddles the line between color and black and white, which takes it out of the realm of reality, and intensifies its symbolic qualities.
