The city of Folly Beach held it's first annual New Year's Eve flip flop drop on 12/31/2011. Center Street was closed between Ashley and Cooper Streets and a giant pair of illuminated flip flops were suspended over the street by a fire truck. As the new year approached the flip flops slowly began to descend, reaching the ground at the stroke of midnight. Celebratory cheers went up from the many hundreds on hand. Toasts were made, kisses exchanged. Then fireworks. A good time was had by all.
