The explanation for the peculiar Vietnamese style of domestic architecture: Taxes
were (are?) imposed according to the width of the house, ignoring the depth back
from the street or the height. So the typical house is tall and narrow,stretching
a long way back, with no side windows and all the "architecture" at the front.
