The road to Milford Sound goes through Homer Tunnel, which is long, dark and steep, and allows
only limited opportunities to pass tourist buses coming the other way. After the tunnel, there is still
this downhill zigzag section to negotiate. It is interesting to watch the expressions on the faces
of drivers and front seat passengers as they emerge: a combination of fear, relief, and "wow!"
