This is the west - "upstream" - side of Spit Bridge. Motorists held up while the bridge opens may fill in
their time waiting by writing letters to politicians about the need for a high-level bridge or a tunnel.
Some of them know the word "bascule" for this sort of bridge, others have stronger words for it.
